Axminster was one of five crews to attend a fire in Ilminster in which affected four houses and three garages.

Fire engines from Chard and Ilminster were called to the scene at Bushs Orchard, Ilminster, at 4pm on Saturday, May 30th. They later requested assistance from Axminster, Martock and Crewkerne stations.

Crews confirmed that the fire had spread to two adjacent properties and set to work with three hose reel jets, two breathing apparatus, two main jets and two thermal image cameras to tackle the fire.

A total of four houses were affected by the fire and three garages were completely destroyed. The fire was deemed to be accidental but unsure of the exact cause.

On Sunday, May 31st Axminster firefighters were called to a local property where the occupier could smell burning.

After a thorough check of the property, advice and reassurance was given to the occupier. The crew also fitted a new smoke detector.
