Axminster will switch on its Christmas lights this weekend, with a full programme set to make the event bigger and better than ever.

Light Up Axminster has teamed up with Axminster Carnival to provide a full programme of festive events on Saturday, November 20 from 4pm to 8pm.

Events will centre around Trinity Square and the Minister Green, and will include a Christmas market and a torchlight procession through the town centre.

The Christmas market will take place both on the church green and inside the church and there will be more than 30 stalls, selling everything from Christmas decorations and treats to gifts.

There will also be donation points for the Axminster Food Bank and the No Toy Left Behind campaign for pre-loved toys.

Axminster Lions Club will be bringing along Father Christmas to greet the children and Herbert's Fun Fair will be providing some fun and games.

Puppetree Punch & Judy will also perform two shows during the evening on the Minster Green and A Face of Make Believe will be offering free face painting.

Axminster Photography Club's exhibition will be on show in the church from 4pm to 7pm. The church will also be hosting a memory tree where you can leave a message for a loved one.

There will be hot food and drink provided by Axminster Rotary Club's barbecue and mulled wine stand, Open Sesame Persian Food, The Pancake Pod with sweet treats and hot drinks and Bridge Farm mulled cider and apple juice.

Axminster Carnival will be on hand to redeem wax candle vouchers bought from local outlets in advance of the event and candles will also be available on the night for the torchlight procession at 7pm, led by the Royal British legion, Mayor of Axminster, town crier and fire crew.

Axminster's Karizma Majorettes will be providing one of their amazing displays ahead of the procession and Singing Matters Choir will give a short performance in the church, as well as leading the way with some carols during the countdown to the big switch on.
