Axminster Town rescued a point in injury time as they kissed goodbye to their run of clean sheets in a dogged home encounter with Torridgeside on Saturday.

Torridgeside are down in 16th place in the South West Peninsular Premier East Division but they gave the Tigers a real run for their money.

The Tigers were far from their best but stuck to the task well. From the start  they struggled to find any rhythm and conceded far too many free kicks as Torridgeside grew in confidence and gained more possession.

On 30 minutes Tigers conceded a penalty which was well saved by keeper Jason Hutchings.

This seemed to give Axe more belief as they had their best spell of the game and scored in the 36th minute through a well taken goal from Mark Jones.

The second half was much like the first as Axminster struggled to find any rhythm and conceded another penalty in the 45th minute from which they equalised.

The visitors then took the lead in the 60th minute but the Tigers showed their spirit and determination as they battled, getting the equaliser from man-of-the-match Breaden Symes in the 91st minute.

Axminster stay in sixth position in the division but have a stern test on Saturday when they travel to third placed Ivybridge. Axminster Reserves are at home to Devon and Exeter Premier division leaders Lapford.
