By Dave Bruce,

We were all blessed with good weather last week and Axe Cliff Golf Club members certainly made the most of it.

On Monday there was a very good turnout for the Seniors' second round of the Masters and pretty good scoring in both divisions.

Roger Hill continued his good performance in winning Division 1 with a net 71, closely followed by Paul Curtin on 73 with Terry Atkins, also on 73, taking third spot on countback.

In Division 2 John Purdy managed the best performance of the day with a net 70. Peter Casey also continues to do well and took second place with 75 and Malcolm Glass had his best round for a while with a fine 76, coming third. Nigel Pritchard is in the overall lead on 143 with Roger Hill close on his heels on 145 - but don't rule out Paul Curtin on 146. All to play for in the next two rounds.

If for any reason you were were still not in the Masters (eg you did not play in the first round) you are still in for a chance to lift the Covid Cup which was coupled with round two. John Purdy won that with a net 70.

Roger Hill, working out the stats, must have been second, leaving Paul Curtin in third place.

All those grannies in the Ladies section competed on Wednesday for the annual Granny Bowl which was was won by Sandra Walker with a very good 37 points. She is in the form of her life and is also nursing her husband, Chris, back to health after having his arm in a sling but still able to cheer her on and help with the cooking. I can't believe that Caroline Bond and Stella Thompson are old enough to be grandmother, but they must be as they took second and third places with 33 points apiece.

On the same day, the Seniors' captain John Hanna was delighted to host our home match against Exminster and Axe Cliff were proud winners with a comprehensive 5-1 score. I am sure it won't be so easy when we have the return match on their delightful course.

It was fantastic to learn that at our open days the club had four new membership applications with another two thinking of joining.

Many thanks for all those who helped especially Andrew Thompson, Kyle Phillpots and Jo Hopgood.
