One of Axminster's biggest events of the year, the Yarty Party, has announced it will still be going ahead next month with COVID safety measures in place.

It was announced yesterday (Monday) that the final easing of lockdown restrictions would not take place on June 21 as initially hoped, but would be delayed for four weeks due to concerns over the rapid spread of the Indian (Delta) variant of COVID-19.

The news has affected some local events, with Millers Farm Shop in Kilmington having cancelled a ceilidh and folk festival.

But Yarty Party organisers have announced they will still be able to go ahead with the three-day music festival with additional safety measures in place over the weekend of July 16, 17 and 18.

The announcement read: "As you can imagine we have been inundated with messages regarding the latest announcement from Boris regarding whether or not the festival will be going ahead.

"The benefit of being a smaller event means we fall 75 per cent under the government maximum capacity for outdoor events in the current tier three restrictions.

"The organisers of Yarty Party have always known that there could be a possibility that the government could extend the restrictions, and therefore we have been working closely with our security, medical and health & safety team tirelessly to become COVID compliant.

"There are some changes we have had to implement for you guys to follow. However, this will mean we can still go ahead with our festival, you know the drill by now… Hands, Face & Space. We will also have track and trace scanning in place on entry.

"We will be sending out an email to all ticket holders with the fully updated changes in the next couple of weeks. But as far as we are concerned the show will go on.

"See you in the field in four weeks."
