Axminster said its final farewells to the late mayor Anni Young today.

Residents gathered in a socially distanced manner outside the Minster Church to say their final goodbyes ahead of Anni's funeral service, which could only be attended by a small number of people due to COVID restrictions.

Members of the Axe Valley Mission Community led prayers and read a poem, and those outside gave a round of applause in memory of Anni before watching her pink coffin, decorated with roses, carried inside the church.

Axminster was shocked and saddened when serving mayor Anni died suddenly in her sleep just before Christmas.

Loving tributes were made to Anni at this week's town council meeting ahead of the election of a new mayor, Cllr Jill Farrow.

Cllr Farrow was among those to take part in today's commemorations, along with several other serving and past councillors and mayors, and a contingent from Axminster Tesco where Anni worked.
