Millers Farm Shop in Kilmington has cancelled a festival due to be held this summer following the extension of coronavirus restrictions.

The farm shop had been planning to host a ceilidh and folk festival on July 24 but has taken taken the decision to cancel following yesterday's government announcement.

It was announced that the final easing of lockdown restrictions would not take place on June 21 as initially hoped, but would be delayed for four weeks due to concerns over the rapid spread of the Indian (Delta) variant of COVID-19.

A statement on the Millers Farm Shop Facebook page said: "After last night's announcement, we feel the sensible thing to do is to cancel our festival.

"Although the planned date of July 24 is after restrictions are due to lift, I think it's fair to say we can't guarantee that happening and social distancing restrictions are likely to remain in place.

"We are absolutely gutted to make this decision, but feel that waiting until next year would be far more safe and fun for everyone, without any worries of COVID!"
