The Axminster branch of the Royal British Legion are busy making plans for a socially-distanced outdoor service on Remembrance Sunday.

The Legion will be marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the First World War on Remembrance Sunday, which this year falls on November 8th.

They had hoped to organise a full march-past but this has had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 regulations.

Instead, Legion members are now putting in a big group effort to arrange an outdoor service around the war memorial on the Minster Green, including wreath laying from 22 local organisations and a two-minute's silence at 11am.

Those wishing to attend should gather at 10.45am and should remain socially-distanced, wear masks and must sign in for Track and Trace purposes.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held inside the church but numbers may be restricted.

A second two-minute's silence will be held at the war memorial at 11am on Armistice Day (November 11th).

A planning application has been submitted for refurbishment of the war memorial, but this is now not expected to be ready until 2021, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the memorial and formation of the Royal British Legion.
