The New Inn at Kilmington is one of three pubs in the South West to receive a coveted Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) golden award, celebrating the organisation's 50 years of campaigning.

The quaint Devon hostelry is run by Georgie Belle and Stephen Clark, who took over the Palmer's Brewery pub in December, just one day before lockdown was introduced.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, CAMRA is recognising people and businesses that have made a significant contribution to the organisation's aims.

The New Inn is a Devon longhouse which became a pub in the early 1800s and has appeared in 44 editions of the Good Beer Guide.

CAMRA's awards director Gary Timmins said: "I am delighted to be honouring the New Inn with a golden award. This is our anniversary year and we want to take this opportunity to celebrate the success of great British locals."

The other two pubs receiving the golden award are the British Lion in Devizes and Ye Olde Cider Bar in Newton Abbott.

Mr Timmins added: "The anniversary comes on the heels of an incredibly difficult time for the industry after a year of lockdowns and restrictions. I hope the teams behind the winning pubs and their locals will take this award as an appreciation for all the hard work in running a pub."
