One of the counsellors from Axminster charity ARC is dedicating her annual holiday to raise funds for the organisation.

Cathy Parsons and her husband go walking every year, usually in Scotland, but this year she has decided to walk the St Cuthbert's Way in Northumberland to raise funds for ARC.

St Cuthbert was an early Christian and eventually became Bishop of Lindisfarne. The St Cuthbert's Way is now a popular walk of a 100km, which usually takes between five and seven days to complete.

Walking from where St Cuthbert first started his ministering in Melrose, on the Scottish borders, Cathy will be completing the route out of season and may well have to face some of England's most inhospitable weather, accompanied along the route by friends.

She said: "We all need purpose in our lives, so raising money for ARC, as an unfit lady past middle age, seems like a great way to spend my holiday.

"I plan to walk every day for the seven days that we are there, and try and raise £2000 for ARC's ongoing great work for the community of Axminster."

ARC provides community counselling services for the people of Axminster, with a specialist focus on trauma, loss and bereavement. It offers unique trauma therapy that is immediately and directly accessible to the community.

Whilst every client is asked for a donation, it is understood that not everyone can afford to do so. ARC therefore relies on external donations to provide the often life-changing services of its expert therapists.
