A guide to public services in Axminster

Axminster Town Council has produced guide to public services to clarify confusion over the responsibilities of the three-tier local government system in Devon.

Announcing the initiative on social media, Axminster town councillor Steve Bolt wrote: "There is quite often confusion amongst our residents regarding which council entity is responsible for the various amenities around the town.

"I saw this in a recent post when someone referred to the council, meaning East Devon District Council, and I was subsequently approached about the very subject, where it had been assumed that Axminster Town Council had the responsibility."

In order to clarify how the three councils of serving Axminster - the Town Council, East Devon District and Devon County - work together to provide our public services, the town council has produced a leaflet that can be found on the town council website www.axminstertowncouncil.gov.uk

Residents who would like an A5 booklet copy to keep in their house for future reference should contact the town council on 01297 32088 and one to be sent out to them. They can also be collected from the Guildhall.

Cllr Holt concluded: "We hope this will help resolve some of the confusion that surrounds the issue of three authorities providing a variety of services."
